Sometimes, it’s hard for Bear to go to sleep at night. He might be tired, exhausted really, but he’ll find a reason to stay up if he can. Bear tends to get a little chatty at bedtime and will talk about random things so he can stay up. I keep reminding Bear he can’t do that and get up early in the morning with the same energy he had before, but you know, kids. LOL

It got to the point where Maks and I made a rule that we all fall asleep at the same time, meaning things start getting turned off, we’re all in our jammies, and we’re in bed with the lights out. It’s not a bad rule to have – no one is staying up late and no one is having FOMO (Fear of Missing Out) because someone else is staying up.

Every night, I usually set aside 5-10 minutes so I can meditate and reflect over the day. It’s my quiet time and both Bear and Maks know not to interrupt. I let go of all the worries and get refreshed for the day ahead. Plus, I noticed I sleep a lot easier when I meditate right before I go to bed.

Originally, I had an app for Bear that was similar to mine and it was created with children in mind. Unfortunately, that app stopped working altogether and I was forced to delete it. I wondered if I could find another app for Bear that could ease him into sleep and I wouldn’t have to spend a small fortune on it.

Enter Moshi.

So, what the heck is Moshi? Well, it’s an award-winning audio-only app helps kids get to sleep faster and stay asleep for longer. They boast that kids fall asleep 28 minutes faster and kids sleep for 22 minutes longer. They also boast that night wakings decrease by up to 50%

They talk a good game but do they work? Well, let’s check it out.

The Moshi app is a series of meditations and music that’ll help soothe your child (and you as well!) as they approach nighttime. They also have amazing daytime apps that will put you at ease and make you refreshed! And trust me when I say it works! A sista is out like a light when the app is done playing.

The meditations are divided into different categories:

Mindfulness

Easing Anxiety

Calming Down

Nap Time

Littler Listeners

Older Listeners

Building Self-Confidence

Meditation Techniques

I love how the meditations are broken down by category because not all meditations fit all or even your mood, depending what it is. Sometimes you need a pick-me-up and sometimes, you need to just to chill out. And if you’re feeling a little down on the dumps, there are some meditations for that!

Moshi also comes with pre-made playlists, but you also have the option to make your own! They have a playlist titled, For Busy Little Minds, to soothe a child before bedtime or naptime. They have another playlist called Bedtime Ballads when you just want to hear soft music without words. They have a playlist that I personally love called Afternoon Chill when you just need to, in Bear’s words, chill out! LOL

You can choose from many different meditations. For the nighttime meditations, one of our favorites is Sleepy Paws, as we listen to a very tired koala navigate through the sleepy world on the way to bedtime. I kid you not, Bear is out before this meditation is finished playing. Sometimes, I’ve fallen asleep in the middle of it as well.

For the daytime meditations, our favorite is Major Moony’s Cosmic Stressbuster. Sometimes, Bear gets stressed out by school work or even when he’s playing with his friends online (we try to tell him to get offline when he gets angry, but as any parent can tell you, that can be a trying time within itself).

I usually turn on this app and have him lay down on our bed in the dark (I’m laying next to him), and just have him focus on his breathing. It works like a charm (and sometimes he falls asleep!)

Moshi is so popular, they even have celebrity voices on there! Actress Goldie Hawn has her own meditation – Goldie the Mindful Moshling (and it’s free for those who want to check it out!). I have to admit, Goldie Hawn has an amazing, soothing voice. Her meditation is also one of the longest, clocking in at 30 minutes. But those 30 minutes go by quick and you feel soooooo much better after it!  Actor Patrick Stewart has a meditation (paid) called the Patrick the Performing Moshling.

The app is free and there are some free meditations on there, including Sleepy Paws and Major Moony’s Cosmic Stressbuster. If you want to purchase the app, they have a 7-day free trial and regular subscription is $59.99/yearly, which comes out to under $5 a month. Not bad at all for peace and quiet!
